They Might Be Giants Release New “Overnight Sensation” Music Video

Brooklyn alternative legends They Might Be Giants have released a brand-new video for their cover of “Overnight Sensation (Hit Record),” originally recorded by Raspberries in the early 70s, the purest of pure pop and directly telegraphing the shallowest desire pulsing in the fevered brain of every musician ever born. The song’s release was accompanied by a new animated music video by David Cowles, featuring the return of his “The Mesopotamians” characters after their debut 19 years earlier.

The band picked up the tempo a bit and made the guitars extra filthy, “We thought it was particularly hilarious and ironic for us to be covering [Overnight Sensation] because we’ve never really had a big hit in the U.S., and obviously there’s no risk of us becoming an overnight sensation. But I just love that song so much, and we thought we could do a good version.”

In support of the release, the band will embark on THE BIGGER SHOW TOUR, launching on April 17. The tour will see them perform multi-night residencies across major cities including Brooklyn, Chicago, Boston, Detroit, Philadelphia, Indianapolis, and Woodstock.

Following two years of sold-out touring, anticipation for both the album and tour continues to build. With “The World Is to Dig,” They Might Be Giants reaffirm their reputation as one of alternative music’s most enduring and inventive acts, delivering a project that blends nostalgia with forward-thinking creativity.
