Grammy-nominated electronic music duo Sofi Tukker took over West Hollywood’s Mel’s Drive-In on Sunday, March 22nd. The duo turned the old school diner into a free one-night pop-up with a live set and Twitch stream.
The duo is famously known to do free pop-ups in popular cities, playing a set of roughly an hour, enjoying a night with fans both in-person and on the web. At 6 o’clock, the retro diner, located in LA’s infamous Sunset Blvd, was packed with regular diners and Sofi Tukker Fans. Cameras and equipment were set up near the entrance of the diner.

About 6:05 p.m., the duo entered the diner, welcoming fans and friends before starting their set. Despite a few technical issues during their first minutes, the venue heated up as Sofi Tukker cooked up some beats. The duo clearly and carefully selected each track, understanding their LA crowd, playing hit songs such as Daddy Yankee’s “Gasolina” and Las Ketchup’s “Asereje (The Ketchup Song).
The duo also played their latest single, “COOK,” bringing out the diner’s kitchen staff and waiters to the dance floor. The kitchen staff was quick to bring out whisks to dance with during the song. One waitress even made it rain with some bills. Sofi Tukker teamed up with global superstar J Balvin last month for their new single and music video, “COOK”. Bursting with playful energy, the new release blends Sofi Tukker’s signature club-ready sound with J Balvin’s unmistakable swagger, resulting in a crossover built for the dance floor.

It was a full-blown party inside Mel’s Drive-In, conga line and everything. Tucker accidentally messed up a transition, but quickly recovered, keeping the energy up. Sophie mostly danced with fans, offering fries and trying out the diner’s milkshakes. After an hour of partying, the duo signed off, thanking everyone for joining them.
Sofi Tukker is composed of New York City duo Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern. To find out where Sofi Tukker will perform next, visit here.
