New Jersey’s simple indie.
Their first record not recorded at their home studio, Night Windows EP Nonsense is a result of the band’s past few years of work. It’s got three simple but fun songs. The perfect little addition to add to your “Autumn fun” playlist while slacklining with friends in the park.
The first track, “Your Phone Call,” is about someone being away from someone they care about, and missing them so much that they “live in the phone call,” meaning they plan on spending all their time on the phone with them. The song follows a basic verse, chorus, verse, chorus pattern. It’s got drums, bass, guitar, vocals and some backup vocals that go ah ah ah ahah. It has a good sound that is fun to listen to, but doesn’t portray the feelings that the lyrics are saying.
Following “Your Phone Call” is “Baseball Cards” with a more somber tone achieved with sustained string sounds and a piano. The intro eases into the song much better than the previous track. The lyrics are a little strange, as it says you’re forgetting about your first born baby, which is later implied to be the singer. It makes many references to popular internet trends, like watching pranks or cooking tips. One interpretation could be a child who feels as though they are being neglected by his parents. Regardless of the peculiar lyrics, it’s an alright song. It’s like eating a saltine cracker, you wouldn’t call it amazing, but there isn’t really anything bad you can say about it.
“Boring you to Death” returns to a sound more reminiscent of “Your Phone Call” and is the longest track on the EP. This time it’s got a groovier bass line. It builds up to a great finish that ties everything together nicely.
The EP is good, not great. It’s fun, but not thrilling. It doesn’t break any world records, but it does mark a good point in the band’s life.
