Transcending and alluring from start to finish.
Jillian Jacqueline has released MotherDaughterSisterWife and left her listeners with much to relate to, and so much peace.
Easily a waltz song of the century, “Cherry Blossom” carries elegance along the smooth tempo that elevates Jacqueline’s soft vocals through space and time. This introduction song that is just over a minute and a half, is a perfect mental reset and cleanse before the rest of the album.
“China Shop” explores feeling fragile and the change you can see in someone over time that was never expected. “I thought you’d hold the shield, but one too many hits taught me I’d have to heal myself.” This track is soft, just as Jacqueline is portraying herself in the song.
A standout song on this record is “Lonely Long Goodbye.” Jacqueline’s voice elevates and builds so effortlessly, but with so much intention. As she is pouring her heart out about a loss that she can not bear to have, strings are added and emotion is captured. Singing about not being able to forget or recover and being in pain, the vulnerability is welcomed. “Has every tear been ceded? / There’s nowhere I can hide / It’s a slow long sigh.”
The title track “MotherDaughterSisterWife” is a powerful piece about the difficulties of becoming a mother, while still being other things such as a daughter, sister and wife. This song will touch many women who are struggling to be everything they are expected to be and do it to the best of their abilities when it’s extremely challenging. “When I became a mother I still felt like a girl / The silent expectations that I should hold the world / I’m still tryna get it right it might take me my whole life.”
The closing track “Gravity,” like the rest of the record but notably on this one, showcases Jacqueline’s vocal abilities. This track is truly a poem, with three stanzas and an enigmatic quality.
MotherDaughterSisterWife has everything you could ask for. This record is thoughtful and light, yet so full of force.
