Friday 5 September, 2025; British rock legends Supergrass launched their U.S. tour in Los Angeles, celebrating the 30th anniversary of their debut album I Should Coco. If anyone in town thought there was only one British band worth seeing that weekend, Supergrass quickly set the record straight.

Three decades on from their breakout moment, the band has evolved both musically and personally. Once hailed as the fresh-faced rebels of the Britpop movement, propelled into the spotlight by their infectious single “Alright,” Supergrass now bring a seasoned confidence to the stage. But make no mistake; the swagger, the energy and the sheer joy of performance remain gloriously intact.

The setlist was a love letter to longtime fans, with the band tearing through I Should Coco in full, peppered with hits (“bangers” according to Gaz)  from across their discography. While they’ve long since stopped releasing new material, and have weathered more than a few breakups and reunions, the show embraced a greatest-hits spirit, skipping only their final studio album, Diamond Hoo Ha.

The crowd, many of whom weren’t even around during the Britpop heyday of the mid-’90s, proved themselves more than worthy. They sang along with abandon to classics like “Caught by the Fuzz” and “Alright,” and gave just as much love to underrated gems like “Sofa (of My Lethargy).” When frontman Gaz Coombes shouted “let’s go fucking nuts!” before launching into “Richard III,” the audience obliged, turning the venue into a bouncing sea of nostalgia and adrenaline.

One of the night’s most heartwarming moments came during “Time to Go,” when drummer Danny Goffey, off duty for the track, joined Coombes and bassist Mick Quinn at the front of the stage, picking up a bass and sharing in the spotlight. The camaraderie between bandmates was palpable, a refreshing contrast to the drama that often plagues legacy acts.

As the encore wrapped with fan-favorite “Pumping on Your Stereo,” the band took their final bow. The house lights came up, and in a cheeky nod to their enduring charm, Bill Withers’ “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” blared through the speakers, sending fans out into the night with grins as wide as Gaz’s former sideburns.
