Alestorm brings a vein-jolting quest on The Thunderfist Chronicles.
Alestorm was formed back in ’04 and is known for heavy and catchy pirate metal. The last piece they dropped was the EP, Voyage of The Dead Marauder, back in ’24, and now, Alestorm has released the album, The Thunderfist Chronicles. As a whole, the album is fantastic because of how the band brings a variety of metal sounds. Sure, some of the tracks are pretty heavy, but if you listen closely, a pirate-like vibe can be heard. The Thunderfist Chronicles is filled with endless talent.
“Banana” is a straight-up jamming track, thanks to the band adding super solid heavy metal into the chaotic pirate adventure. The sound of the thunderous guitar riffs gives this composition a soul-shaking reason why metal can blend into almost any kind of genre. Although “Banana” is fast-paced, some people will find themselves singing along to the super catchy chorus that is performed.
“Killed To Death By Piracy” is a fun composition because the lyrics describe the feeling of battling a war that is constantly surrounding our society. Other than the honest word, the instrumentation shakes the background with a deep metal-punk vibe that matches the serious theme on “Killed To Death by Piracy.” The emotions from the vocal performance can be felt through each commanding pitch.
“The Storm” is by far the most pirate-themed number on the album. The whole production gives the feeling of battling the storm that continues to invade our lives. The guitar, drum and keyboard playing brings the feeling of going into battle with the dark storm, while the vocalist effortlessly wails out the lyrics with endless rage. “The Storm” is truly one of the most captivating ditties on The Thunderfist Chronicles.
“Goblins Ahoy!” is by far the most amusing track on the album because from the very start, story characters can be heard talking to each other before a deadly fight breaks out. The voice of the characters brings a SpongeBob vibe, before the bombastic music tells the entire story. The vocal performance shines brightly on “Goblins Ahoy!” by how each grumble and shriek.
The Thunderfist Chronicles is simply a fun album because Alestorm’s love for music can be felt through each track, and surely, some people will be singing and dancing along while they play the tunes live.
