Kreayshawn Performs For The First Time In Over 10 Years at Mosswood Meltdown

The Mosswood Meltdown music festival has returned to Oakland at Mosswood Park. The event was hosted by John Waters. The lineup for the festival also includes Devo, Osees, Bratmobile, Shannon & The Clams, La Luz and a new version of the Exploding Hearts. The new version includes the sole surviving member, Terry Six. Another musician who was included in the lineup is an Oakland native, Kreayshawn. The artist is mostly known for her early 2010 viral rap hit, “Gucci Gucci.” According to an article by Stereogum, her performance at the music festival was her first proper performance in over a decade.

Kreayshawn did sing “Gucci Gucci” at Smoker’s Club in 2022, but when Walter had introduced the artist onto the stage, he told the crowd that it was her first performance in over decade. Kreayshawn did a full set at the music festival. When she came onto the stage, Waters gave her a kind speech to start off her set. “Some have called our next singer the coolest act to ever come out of Oakland,” said Waters. “Her badass mom played gigs with the Trashwomen, and she recorded a song that went viral when she was just 21 years old. And it’s racked up to this day 70 million YouTube hits. But it didn’t make her happy; it made her crazy!… We’ve been trying to book her here for years, and now it’s finally happening. Her first gig in over a decade — yeah! Fame first fucked her up like Greta Garbage, but her fans rallied and picked her up, right? She sings about blackmailing your cheating boyfriend and burning down his house. Alright! But you’ll be won over by her ferocious grace. She’s way beyond ‘Gucci Gucci.’ She’s no hip-hop hoochie coochie. No, she’s a legend in our minds. Please welcome Kreayshawn.”
