Album Review: Exiled Hope – Apocrypha

Exiled Hope brings mind-dazzling kills on Apocrypha.

Symphonic goth metal artist Exiled Hope is known for her deep and magical music. Now, the musician has released Apocrypha. What is fabulously great about the album is how Exiled Hope’s musical talents shake each track with high-powered melodies and metal music that expresses the singer’s bold emotions.

Kicking off Apocrypha is “The Summoning.” Right off the bat, the lovely piano solo welcomes listeners to Exiled Hope’s enchanting and dark atmosphere. At the same time, the artist beautifully sings out the deep lyrics. But the most exciting part of “The Summoning” is when Exiled Hope starts to shout out the words in pure passion and rage. Switching vocal styles on this ditty makes the whole thing more musically dominant.

“Over For You” is a twisted but enchanting number with a lovely string arrangement and piano playing smacking the background with sizzling noise. The composition turns into a blazing and sizzling musical jam with a killer guitar solo and Exiled Hope singing and yelling the rich words. The whole production is stunning on “Over For You,” and surely, everything will sound just as good live.

“Behold My Shattered Skies” differs slightly from the previous tunes; the musical tempo is a bit slower and gloomier. The string arrangement, guitar, and drum playing give this tune a high dose of sentimentalism, while the vocalist sings her heart and soul out. Because of the dynamic vocal performance, the strong emotions of sadness, despair, and hopelessness can be felt on “Behold My Shattered Skies.”

“Lightborn” is amazing thanks to the violin playing that brings a masterful and mystical symphonic sound that complements the fast-paced metal vibe. The sound of the violin playing raging in the background brings in more of the dramatic, while the super solid guitar and drum playing brings a blasting metal noise. Also on “Lightborn,” Exiled Hope’s vocal performances bring an extra kick of energy and bold emotions.

“Forbidden Majesties” ends  Apocrypha on a high note, thanks to the dynamic instrumentation creating a beautiful symphonic mash that blends into the chaotic metal. Each note, key, riff, and beat gives this composition a smack of endless mayhem, while the vocalist sings and growls out the honest and insightful lyrics. And of course, Exiled Hope emotionally yells her heart out toward the end of “Forbidden Majesties” and leaves the mind questioning if there will be a second part of  Apocrypha.

There are many different styles of metal music. On this record, Exiled Hope shows how beautiful metal can be when you have the right elements to create a symphonic record that is just as powerful as any other metal music album.
