Atmospheric, Raw, Rich, Solitude, Introspection
Sofia Härdig’s ninth studio album, Lighthouse of Glass, was released on April 11, 2025, showcasing a body of work that’s as experimental as it is emotionally rich. Härdig was both a producer and performer of a lineup of collaborators, including Bebe Risenfors, Robert Johnsson and John Essing. Grammy Award-winner Nille Perned handled the mixing duties, ensuring that the album’s soundscapes remained rich and immersive.
The album switches between post-punk, gothic rock and alternative influences. (via. Rolling Stone) Härdig’s artistic versatility shines through as she crafts both intimate moments and bold musical statements that refuse easy categorization. The production itself blends experimental sounds with intimate moments of creativity, and Härdig’s innovative approach to songwriting stands front and center.
The album’s title track, “Lighthouse of Glass,” stands as a significant addition as a raw, improvisational burst of energy that reflects the artist’s restless spirit and vulnerability. One of the most organic tracks on the album, “Lighthouse of Glass,” came together in a single improvisational session. The initial guitar take, recorded in one go, remains untouched throughout the production process. The song’s final form was solidified when Sofia sent the first take to Bebe Risenfors, who added his contributions. (via. Bark At Your Owner) “Lighthouse of Glass” is a perfect metaphor for the album itself, offering clarity amidst the chaos yet fragile.
“Collision” marked a change in Härdig’s musical evolution and sound design, with the introduction of a trombone and strings to her sound design. According to Härdig, the trombone section resembled “a whole little brass ensemble.” “Collision” felt cinematic and dark while also blending orchestral textures with experimental songwriting. The addition of trombone and violin added a new dimension to the music.
“Kingdom Come” has multiple verses and forms throughout a slow-building, epic track, filled with layered meanings that create an unsettling atmosphere, reflecting the dark narrative within the song. Härdig hints at the possibility of releasing the full story as a novel in the future.
Härdig said, “I think and hope that listening is like dipping your toes into these different fragments of worlds that exist under the surface.”
According to Bark At Your Owner, Lighthouse of Glass represents the culmination of two years of artistic isolation for Härdig. During this period, she focused intensely on songwriting and recording, drawing from fragments of text and images that she pinned up on her walls. The album shifts fluidly between introspective ballads and bold, electrifying anthems, showcasing Härdig’s unique vocal range and ability to craft both intimate and grandiose musical landscapes. This process, which Härdig describes as “writing in a cave,” is reflected in the album’s deep sense of solitude and introspection.
Each track on Lighthouse of Glass reflects Sofia Härdig’s deep introspection and willingness to experiment with sound. From improvisational beginnings to intricate collaborations, the album is a testament to the power of creative freedom. It is an album that challenges listeners with conventions while also offering moments of beauty, reflection and raw energy. Fans can expect a continuous tour until 2026.
