Lacuna Coil brings mind-dazzling musical power to Sleepless Empire.
Italian metal band Lacuna Coil is known for their bolstering heavy metal music and now, the band is back with their latest album, Sleepless Empire. What is fantastic about this album is how each track is filled with earth-shattering instrumentation and vocal performance. The band’s previous albums were filled with ear-bleeding and thrilling music, but on Sleepless Empire, Lacuna Coil expands their skills by using more profound creativity to express their minds.
Kicking things off is “The Siege,” which stands out in this ditty. The harmonic instrumentation brings strong emotions, while the guitar and drum playing shake the background with sheer power. Both vocalists do a great job of creating a deep sadness that can be felt through the lyrics of “The Siege.”
On Sleepless Empire, several tunes can make listeners feel like they are battling a war inside Lacuna’s head. On “Gravity,” the band creates a musical anthem that represents what some people are going through. Right at the start, the band members chanting the lyrics bring a war-like vibe before the thrashing metal sizzles the air with deep human emotions.
The title track, “Sleepless Empire,” is another anthem-like tune, but what shines on this ditty is hearing the lead vocalist screaming out the lyrics in pure rage; right off the bat, the lead vocalist can be heard grumbling out the lyrics with his deep voice before thrillingly yelling out the words in bold anger. The female vocalist also compliments the yelling with bittersweet melodies.
Another heart-jolting ditty is “In The Mean Time.” What is fabulous about this composition is how heavier it sounds compared to the previous tunes in this review. Everything screams heavy metal music thanks to the guitar playing, creating face-smacking riffs, the drum player performing smash drum beats, and both vocalists passionately wailing and shouting the relatable lyrics on “In The Mean Time.”
Lacuna Coil is back with Sleepless Empire, and on the album, the band musically proves they can compete and thrive in today’s music industry.
