Canadian singer, songwriter, and producer WHIPPED CREAM returns with a new sound on her vocally driven techno EP, Careline. The album builds on the 2024 releases “Intro Call” and “GOD IS A GENTLEMAN,” adding four more tracks to complete the EP. On “Intro Call,” the album’s opener, an upbeat musical idea quickly turns sinister and never looks back. Influence from techno’s history and reemerging genres from today leads to an album fit for an abounded warehouse in the heart of Motor City, nothing like anything from WHIPPED CREAM.
Distorted kicks, hard-thumping bass, and wet, melodic vocals are staples in a genre where repetition and variation between sections are king. “You Dream Of Me, Right?” introduces acid stabs and melodic vocal chops to bring the track to its peak. “Love The Night Away” is highly rhythmic, like a 2025 progressive house tune, incorporating elements of bass house with techno through beefy growls heard above the kick and rumble.
The EP wraps up with two standout tracks: “Techno Is My Only Love” and “Red Line.” “Techno Is My Only Love” brings a syncopated groove to a typically straight genre that gives the track a unique flair, like afro house meets techno. Finally, “Red Line” and its contrasting drops use the reemerging dubstep sound to juxtapose the techno-driven second half of the track.
WHIPPED CREAM summons dark, grungy energy on Careline. While influences outside of techno are heard in her album, there is still room to push the boundaries of what’s possible when inspiration comes from so many places.
