Daft Punk’s iconic film, Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem (remastered in 4K), will be screened at Los Angeles’ United Theater on Broadway, presented by IHEARTCOMIX on Monday September 30th. Fans around the world will be able to experience this legendary anime film like never before on the big screen. This version has been remastered in 4K and is the only way to hear Discovery in Dolby 5.1 Surround. A true treat for the Daft Punk fans, as well as anime lovers alike, given that its original version is rarely shown in theaters.
After the LA premiere, first, a moderated panel will be held with Cédric Hervet (Daft Punk’s creative director and co-writer of the film) and Pedro Winter (former Daft Punk manager / Busy P / Ed Banger founder). To keep the night going, there’ll be an after-party with DJ sets by Busy P and surprise guests. This event is an 18 and older event.
Originally released in May 2003 as a stunning and unique visual companion to Discovery, the French duo’s sophomore album, Interstella 5555 was brought to life by Thomas Bangalter, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, and Cédric Hervet as writers, directed by Kazuhisa Takenouchi, and supervised by the legendary Leiji Matsumoto. The movie tells a story about four talented alien musicians kidnapped by a record producer who disguises them as humans, followed by a rescue operation led by their pilot Shep. Daft Punk set a new standard for audiovisual storytelling, transcending the boundaries of music videos and creating a captivating sci-fi saga.
After their split up back in 2021, after an amazing 28-year-long career, this exciting announcement is a treat for the fans. The film had never been fully released and was rarely seen in cinemas, though scenes appear in several Daft Punk videos, including “One More Time.”
