The band brings heart jolting music.
Metal band Sumac has been dazzling people’s minds with their music since 2014 and earlier in June, the trio released their EP, The Healer. Although the EP has four tracks, each song is filled with sizzling instrumentation filling the air with jolting sound while the vocal performance serenades the ears with great authority. The Healer is a glimpse of just how much Sumac has grown as a band.
Starting things off is “World Of Light,” and what is great about this whole composition is the bass playing that shakes the background with killer riffs. Right at the beginning, the heaviness of the bass guitar can be heard through the loud and vibrating riffs that blend with the thunderous drum beats. The bassist does a fantastic job of producing riffs that blend in with the lingering madness.
“Yellow Dawn” is a ditty that shows more of a harmonic side of Sumac, thanks to the thrilling lead guitar, providing electric riffs that match the tempo of the drums. While listening, the lead guitar solo brings a small kick of a harmonic western vibe before switching over to vein-jolting metal. The whole thing is wonderful because of how musically skilled the band is.
“New Rites” is a song that shows the face-smacking side of Sumac. The best part is hearing the vocalist passionately sing out the lyrics by using his deep and dark voice. As a whole, the instrumentation is fantastic, but when the vocalist growls and shrieks out the lyrics, the music becomes louder and crazier on “New Rites.” The vocalist does great with sharing his feelings in a commanding vocal performance.
“The Stone’s Turn” closes the EP on a high note thanks to the killer instrumentation bringing in hard knocking notes and beats that contribute to the endless insanity. Right off the bat, the sounds of havoc — lead and bass guitar can be heard while the vocalist wails out the lyrics with his rich voice before the drum playing kicks in with fast-paced beats.
The Healer is an EP that gives an example of how much Sumac cares about their music. What was enjoyable about listening to the music was how the band was not afraid to use creativity to express their minds on the EP.
