Christian-alternative-rock band Sixpence None The Richer is going on tour for the first time in almost 20 years, celebrating their 25th anniversary. The We Are Love tour will hit 24 cities, and is coming to the City Winery in Philadelphia on October 30th.
The group started performing in 1992, releasing their debut studio album The Fatherless and The Widow two years later. Their second studio album, This Beautiful Mess, would bring new attention to the band and was considered one of the best rock albums of 1995.
The band’s third studio album, the self titled Sixpence None the Richer, would release in 1997 and bring in thousands of new fans and newfound commercial success. The album quickly became a charting hit, with singles including “There She Goes” and “Kiss Me,” which would explode in popularity due to its catchy nature, as well as its memorable and prominent appearance in the 1999 high school rom-com She’s All That. The album would go platinum in 2000, and the band received two Grammy Award nominations: best Pop Performance for “Kiss Me” and Best Rock Gospel Album. This cemented the band’s iconic status in the rock world, and Christian rock in particular.
The upcoming tour is the first sign of new music from the band in over 10 years, with their last studio album release, Lost in Translation, being released in 2012. The band has hinted with this tour that fans should keep their eyes out for not only new singles, but hopefully a full studio album prior to the band’s tour starting in October.
