Porter Robinson at The Mann on September 13th

Producer, songwriter and DJ Porter Robinson recently announced that he would be going on a world tour, the Smile! 😀 World tour, coming to the TD Pavilion at The Mann in Philadelphia on September 13th.

Robinson came onto the electronic music scene as a force, with his early singles catching the attention of high-profile musicians in the field as well as the greater population, with his early single releases finding their places on U.S. and international charts. Notably, in 2012, Robinson Co-wrote the hit song “Clarity” by Zedd, even having his vocals featured on the track.

His debut studio album, Worlds (2014) would rock the dance and electronic music worlds (pun intended) and Robinson would be awarded Billboard’s best Dance/Electronic album of the year and win MTV’s best new artist. The album would be considered by critics and fans alike to be crucial in the development of EDM music.

The year following the release of Worlds, Robinson announced he would be taking a break from music to focus on his mental health and reconnect with his music. During this break time, however, Robinson’s presence was not completely unfelt, as he continued to produce songs for other artists and even released works under various alias names including Virtual Self.

After seven years away from making music, Robinson came back strong in 2021 with the release of Nurture, which would be considered by many one of the best and most notable releases of the year.

On tour, fans expect Robinson to perform songs from his 2024 release, Smile! 😀. Robinson released three singles off of the album prior to its full release as teasers – “Cheerleader”, “Knock Yourself Out XD,” and “Russian Roulette” – and was met with high praise and excitement from fans. Similar to Nurture, the album shows a sonic shift in Robinsons music from Worlds away from the typical EDM sound, and further into electropop music.
