American rapper, singer, actor, and songwriter Vince Staples recently announced the Black in America Tour, coming to the Franklin Music Hall in Philadelphia on October 21st.
Staples ‘ musical career began as a featured-soloist on songs produced by members of the alternative rap collective Odd Future with whom he was friends. Then in 2011, he released his own first mixtape, Shyne Coldchain Vol. 1. His debut studio album, Summertime ‘06, came in 2015, and would be quickly followed by Staples’ feature in that year’s XXL Freshman class, exposing his work to a much larger audience.
His second studio album release would further cement Staples’ prominent place in the rap community. Big Fish Theory would include a star studded list of features and producers, with complex beats and lyricism, and hits including “Big Fish”, “Homage,” and “Yeah Right” solidifying the album as one of the best of 2017. His three other album releases between Big Fish Theory and his most recent – FM!, Vince Staples, and Ramona Park Broke My Heart – all found their rightful places on the rap charts, as well as all three being considered one of the best albums of their respective release years.
On tour, fans can expect Staples to largely perform songs off of his 2024 studio album release, Dark Times, which came out last month. Prior to the full album release, Staples released the lead single on the album, “Shame on the Devil,” releasing the album ten days later to mass acclaim.
Outside of his music career, Vince Staples recently played a recurring role in the Philly-based TV show Abbott Elementary which further solidified his popularity with his Philadelphia fan base.
