Sturgill Simpson at The Met Philadelphia on Nov. 12th & 13th

Grammy-award winning country singer-songwriter Sturgill Simpson is coming to Philly for his Why Not? Tour on November 12th & 13th at The Met.

Simpson began his music career as a member of the country band Duane Lundy, which disbanded in 2012. Simpson quickly followed up with his solo debut, releasing his first studio album, High Top Mountain, in 2013. His second studio album, Metamodern Sounds in Country Music, was nominated for the Grammy award for Best Americana Album of 2015, and put Simpson on the map. Simpson’s third studio album, A Sailor’s Guide to Earth, would become his first Grammy-winning album, winning Best Country album of 2017, as well as being nominated for album of the year.

The four following albums – Sound & Fury, Cuttin’ Grass Vol. 1 & 2, and The Ballad of Dood & Juanita – would receive similar acclaim to Simpson’s earlier work, all four receiving best album Grammy nominations, and all being acclaimed for their creative storytelling and expert instrumentals.

Simpson emphasized throughout his career that he only planned to release five studio albums, which he did not stick to (to the relief of his fan base), but once he began working on his eighth and most recent studio album, Passage du Desir (2024), he decided to release it under the alias Johnny Blue Skies. On tour, Simpson will be performing with “accompaniment” from Johnny Blue Skies, performing both hits from his discography and songs off of the most recent release.

There are a lot of reasons why you shouldn’t miss his “Why Not” Tour, so get your tickets for the first night HERE and the second night HERE
