Cuco To Celebrate Mexican Independence Day At The Greek Theatre On Sept. 16

Hawthorne-based bedroom pop artist Cuco has announced a special performance at the Greek Theatre set to take place on Monday, September 16. The show will celebrate Mexican Independence Day and includes a comedy set by Rene Vaca and a Wyldeflower DJ set.

Cuco, the first-generation Mexican American artist will honor his heritage with a special set in which he will perform with Mariachi Rams at the Los Angeles amphitheater, The Greek Theatre. It is unknown whether Cuco will bring out his trumpet for this event. Joining Cuco will be San Fernando Valley stand-up comedian René Vaca and a DJ set by KCRW’s Wyldeflower.

Cuco has promoted the event on his socials including a video in which he hides in a suit case to sneak onto the Greek Theatre premises. On his latest promotional post, Cuco walks around the seating sections of the venue and tells his fans, “This is for you, because of you.”

Cuco first garnered attention with his home-recorded and self-released projects like 2016’s Wannabewithu and 2018’s Chiquito EP which included catchy English and Spanish lyrics. Untethered to genre constraints, he experimented with styles and sounds, incorporating mariachi and R&B, psychedelia and rap, as well as other forms into his diverse palette as he sought fit. Much to his delight, the play counts on his tracks went from the thousands into the hundreds of thousands, prompting him to bring his music into the live setting more and more often, playing to growing crowds on tour and in festival settings. In 2019, Cuco released his full-length debut record Para Mi, via Interscope Records. The genre-bending artist has also recorded with The Marias, Clairo, Adriel Favela and many more. The LA locale is also known to surprise fans with pop-up shops, including his most recent appearance in Hollywood for an in-store vinyl signing to celebrate Record Store Day.
