Orville Peck at The Met on October 18th

This week, masked country singer and guitarist Orville Peck kicked off his Stampede tour, coming to The Met in Philadelphia on October 18th.

Orville Peck has had a meteoric rise in popularity on the country music scene. He only came onto the scene in 2019 with the release of his debut album Pony. Receiving immediate critical acclaim, Peck became a notable figure for his lyrics, which looked at/continue to explore the intersections between queer identity/homoeroticism and traditionally country or old western ideas and cultures, which is optimized in his most popular song, off of Pony, “Dead of Night.”

His second studio album, Bronco, similarly received rave reviews, and his popularity gained further traction. Adding to his talent is the mystery behind his appearance and identity as he wears a mask whenever he performs.

The Stampede tour is to celebrate the release of Stampede: Vol. 1, Peck’s third studio album, and presumably the first part of the Stampede series. All of the songs have features from different, prominent voices in the music world including Willie Nelson on “Cowboys Are Frequently Secretly Fond Of Each Other”, Noah Cyrus on “How Far Will We Take It?”, and Elton John on a cover of his own song, “Saturday Night’s Alright (For Fighting).”

In 2023, Peck was nominated for breakthrough artist of the year at the Canadian Country Music Awards, and in 2024 Peck won the GLAAD Vito Russo Award, an award highlighting prominent LGBTQ+ figures who are making positive change and contributions to their communities, showing how impactful his music truly is.

Peck’s Philadelphia show will be opened by two performers, country singer-songwriter Nikki Lane, who opened for Lana Del Rey’s 2023 tour, and country singer and guitarist Vincent Neil Emerson.

You don’t need to know the man behind the mask, to enjoy this critically acclaimed musician who is known as an amazing performer who commands the stage. Don’t miss out! Get your tickets HERE.
