Vampire Weekend at The Mann on September 28

Vampire Weekend, the acclaimed American rock band, is going on their first tour in five years, the Only God Was Above Us tour, coming to the TD Pavillion at the Mann in Philadelphia on September 28th.

Composed of Ezra Koenig, Chris Thomson, and Chris Bario, Vampire Weekend formed in 2006 while the members were students at Columbia, and they named their band after a short film Koenig was working on during his freshman year.

After releasing a single in 2007 titled “A-Punk”, they released their debut self-titled album in 2008. Mixing sounds of alternative, indie, and classical rock with pop and even influences of ska music, Vampire Weekend (2008) put the band on the map with chart-topping hits including the previously released “A-Punk,” and new tunes such as “Oxford Comma” and “Campus,” which went viral on TikTok years later in 2021. Their four albums since then have continued to explore and expand upon sounds introduced in their initial work, finding more and more fans with every release.

The tour was announced in February as an accompaniment to their soon to be released fifth studio album, Only God Was Above Us, two singles off of which were released along with the tour announcement, “Capricorn” and “Gen-X Cops.” The album was released in full in early April, and has received rave reviews from critics and fans alike, with songs like “Classical” and “Hope,” an eight-minute-long outro to the album.

For their Philadelphia appearance, the band’s performance will be opened by New York-based alternative/indie duo Cults. In 2023, Cults released a ten year anniversary edition of their second and most popular studio album Static, and then in 2024, they released their most recent single “Crybaby.” The band has two songs that have also found virality on Tik Tok: “Always and Forever” off of Static, and “Gilded Lily,” off their 2022 album release, Offering.

Given the buzz around Vampire Weekend’s newest album, as well as their large fan base and that of Cults, this is going to be a phenomenal music show. Tickets are available HERE. Get yours soon!
