Childish Gambino at The Wells Fargo Center on August 21st

Multi-talented actor, comedian, writer, and Grammy-Award-winning-musician Childish Gambino (a.k.a. Donald Glover) dropped his newest studio album, Atavista, last week; this album was accompanied by the announcement of a world tour, “The New World Tour,” which will be coming to the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on August 21st.

Atavista is a reissue, or updated edit, of Gambino’s 2020 album 3.15.20, which was announced as an unfinished album during its initial pandemic release. The new album includes most of the songs off of 3.15.20 with new titles, new lyrics, and refined editing and producing of the instrumentals. The album also includes features from a wide range of recording stars including Ariana Grande on “Time (Atavista Version),” Summer Walker on “Sweet Thang,” and 21 Savage on “Psilocybe (Millennial Love).”

Gambino recently released a music video for the song “Little Foot Big Foot” off of the new album featuring rapper Young Nudy. In addition to Gambino’s impressive dance moves and amazing choreography, the video poses interesting questions about the appeal of violence in music.

The openers for the tour will be Amaarae and WILLOW which, in of itself, is an amazing lineup. Amaarae is a New-York based R&B artist whose music has a heavy afrobeat influence that makes you want to dance and has attracted a large fan base. She has had two songs off her recent album Fountain Baby go viral on TikTok: “Princess Going Digital” and “Angels in Tibet.”

WILLOW’s career has taken many turns over the years, with the release of her 2024 album empathogen being the most experimental project she has done yet. Incorporating influences from jazz, neo-soul, and even punk-rock, her latest album is inspiring and poetic.

This tour will be Gambino’s first in almost six years, and the largest, and is certain to be a powerful and memorable concert and musical experience.
