It is no surprise that Kacey Musgraves has won seven Grammy Awards. Her newest album Deeper Well is wistful, charming and captivating. Every song on the album has its own story with majestic sounds throughout.
The third track on the album “Too Good To Be True” is a vulnerable song encompassing the feeling of not wanting to give everything to another person, caused by past experiences with fear of regret. It is as if Musgraves wrote a love letter and sang it to us. The fifth track “Sway” has an instrumental aspect that paints a picture of a first love dancing by a campfire with everyone playing along around them. Musgraves adds harmonies with herself at the end of the song and sounds angelic while her voice flows with itself.
“Dinner With Friends” picks up in the middle of the song to give more of an old country rock sound, while keeping the vibe of the album soft and sweet. The lyrics such as “He loves me in all of the ways that I never felt like before” express her giddiness about the person she is singing about. In the lyrics the appreciation is heard as she hums along throughout the track.
“The Architect” embodies the wonder of how beautiful things get made, wanting to figure out where natural beauty comes from. Musgraves takes this idea of wonderment while looking at herself in a mirror, giving a deeper meaning to the song. This is a lovely song that paints a picture of everything she is singing about. Instrumentally, the sound is mellow and bright.
The beginning of “Lonely Millionaire” is nothing like any of the other songs on the album. There is a suspenseful sound with a beautiful undertone. At the beginning of the song, Musgraves takes her voice into a lower register than usual, and it is done perfectly.
The hook in “Anime Eyes” is extremely captivating, leading into a bending guitar. Musgraves did an amazing job on the bridge making it a perfect mix of angst and bliss. This song is one that is likely to be put on repeat by the album’s listeners.
Deeper Well is Kacey Musgraves’ first album since 2021, and it was well worth the wait. In every song that Musgraves sings, her voice is constant and flawless.
