Originally from Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada, Alvvays formed in 2011 and is comprised of vocalist Molly Rankin, keyboardist Kerri MacLellan, lead guitarist Alec O’Hanley, drummer Sheridan Riley, and bass guitarist Abbey Blackwell. Now based in Toronto, the band spent their early years touring as an opening act for various groups, playing solo material written by Rankin. The band released their debut self-titled album in 2013 to critical acclaim. A stellar performance at SXSW garnered the attention of Polyvinyl Records, who signed the band, where they remain to this day.
Following the success of their debut album, Alvvays began working on their sophomore LP in 2015. Antisocialites released in September 2017, charting across the world and receive positive critical reception. A world tour supporting the album ensued throughout the rest of 2017 and into 2018.
The band went radio silent on social media in the following years, finally making their grand return to music in 2022 with the release of their biggest and most successful album, Blue Rev. The album received widespread critical acclaim, being named one of the best albums of the year by dozens of publications.
