Scottish alternative rock band, Teenage Fanclub, have announced a North American tour in support of the new album, Nothing Lasts Forever! The group will be making a stop in San Francisco at The Fillmore on May 16.
Teenage Fanclub formed in Glasgow, Scotland in 1989. Their current lineup are vocalists and guitarists Norman Blake and Raymond McGinley, drummer Francis Macdonald, bassist Dave McGowan, and keyboardist Euros Childs. The group emerged from the British C86 cassette compilation released by NME in 1986. Members McGinley, Blake, and Macdonald were members of The Boy Hairdressers and helped form Teenage Fanclub after their breakup. The group had noisier origins, evident on their 1990 debut, A Catholic Education. After refining their sound and lineup, the band’s follow-up record, Bandwagonesque, released in 1991 brought them significant commercial success.
The group would tour with Nirvana in 1992, receiving regular praise from frontman Kurt Cobain. Since then, the band has released an additional 10 studio album, the most recent of which, Nothing Lasts Forever, dropped last September. The album received relative critical acclaim, proving that even after all this time, Teenage Fanclub has still got it. The band’s sound throughout most of their career can be categorized as alternative rock that still packs the same punch as their earlier work.
