Canadian Singer-Songwriter Sarah McLachlan, winner of two Grammy awards, recipient of four Juno awards, and as of 2015, has sold over forty million albums worldwide. Born and adopted in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, McLachlan received formal training in piano, guitar and voice which eventually led her to create punk and new wave music, as a means of rebelling against a conservative upbringing. At the age of seventeen, she became the lead singer for the band, October Game. Later in life, she moved to Vancouver, Canada and signed a record deal with Nettwerk, an independent record label from Vancouver. Shortly after releasing her debut album, Touch in 1988. McLachlan’s album became the catalyst to her massive success, laying down the foundation for her next three albums, Solace (1991), Fumbling Towards Ecstacy (1994) and Surfacing (1997).
Sufarcing became an international success, selling over 11 million copies worldwide and allowed her to form Lilith Fair Tour. This tour was not only incredibly popular but also supported the music careers of many well-known female artists today such as Sheryl Crow and Tracy Chapman. At the time, embarking on a tour of this caliber with back-to-back performances by female artists was frowned upon financially and was seen as a money pit. McLachlan, frustrated by music and concert executives, took the reigns and annihilated expectations, even raking in over $60 million in ticket sales in three years. In recent years, she has released several albums, many of them receiving prestigious awards, but in 2016, her latest Holiday project, Wonderland is a Christmas-themed album featuring songs “Away in a Manger”, “Go Tell It On A Mountain” and “Angels We Have Heard On High”. Since its release, the album has been streamed over 12 million times.
Some might refer to it as a belated Christmas present or a New Year’s wish, but regardless of the terminology used, all music enthusiasts can agree that on June 26th, the 30th Anniversary Tour of McLachlan’s Fumbling Towards Ecstacy will be performed at TD Pavilion at the Mann in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. McLachlan is making her way to our City, blessing the East Coast with another performance and bringing along her special guest Feist! Although tickets aren’t sold out yet, we can’t promise that they won’t be by the time you read this article. Once you buy your tickets, head over to the TD Pavilion at the Mann!
