Royal Thunder is a rock, specifically stoner rock band formed in 2004 in Atlanta, Georgia. They have been performing for close to two decades and are currently on tour in the US. Rebuilding the Mountain is the band’s latest album, released this past year after a six-year hiatus. The album features ten songs without a single feature, while their most popular song, “The Knife” has reached over 300,000 streams on Spotify. The band focuses on illuminating the struggles of toxic behavior, addiction, and the perseverance to prevail. Before their hiatus, Royal Thunder was discovered after releasing their first EP, Royal Thunder in 2009. Although the self-released EP wasn’t a major financial success, the band was introduced and picked up by Relapse Records.
The relationship between Royal Thunder and its new label, Relapse Records, marked the beginning of a flourishing career in the music industry. This collaboration led the band to create and release their debut album, “CVI” in 2012. Over the years, three more albums, Crooked Doors (2015), Wick (2017) and Rebuilding the Mountain (2023) followed. After solidifying themselves in the world of rock music, the band was almost broken up. According to their guitarist, Josh Weaver, in an interview from 2023 with Hammer Metal Magazine, “Years of not dealing with business or our personal lives, just saying, ‘Let’s go to the bar instead’, added up. Everything had to fall apart before we could set things right” (Hobson, 2023). Fortunately for the fans, the band will begin touring on January 18th. If you live in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania or are willing to travel, you can buy tickets to meet Royal Thunder for the first time in six years at the MilkBoy on January 21st. The concert will begin at 7:00 pm and end by 11:00 pm unless the crowd demands an encore!
