Pop punk power trio, Green Day, have announced a summer 2024 tour in support of their new album, Saviors, as well as in celebration of 30 years of their album, Dookie, and 20 years of their album, American Idiot. They will be making a stop in San Francisco at Oracle Park on September 20.
Forming in the East Bay in 1987, Green Day has released a total of 13 studio albums, with their fourteenth, Saviors, set to release in January. They are lead singer and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt, and drummer Tre Cool. The band has been nominated for 20 Grammy awards, and have won five over the course of their 30 plus year long career.
Their breakthrough album, Dookie, which turns 30 next year, was released in February 1994, having been recorded in only three weeks. The album was both a critical and commercial success, selling over 10 million copies in the US and winning the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Album. Dookie is considered one of the defining albums for bringing a melodic rock sound to the mainstream after the grunge crazy of the late 1980s and early 1990s.
American Idiot, the band’s seventh studio album was released in September 2004, and is considered a punk rock opera that served as a piece of protest art prior to the reelection of US President George W. Bush. It follows the story of a fictional character named Jesus of Suburbia, a lower-middle-class suburban teen who lives under the rule of an idiot leader that misinforms people via the media. The album won the 2005 Grammy Award for Best Rock Album.
