Australian rock band King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard has announced a world tour next year, fresh off the heels of their 25th studio album, The Silver Cord, which was released earlier this year. The tour includes a stop in Stanford at The Frost Amphitheater on November 4.
King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard formed as a jam band in 2010 and self released a number of singles in 2010 and 2011. Their first album, 12 Bar Bruise, a garage rock record recorded completely through DIY methods, was released on September 7, 2012. The band is known for taking a number of unique approaches to album making. They’ve produced concept albums like Eyes Like the Sky and I’m in Your Mind Fuzz. Their album Quarters! consisted of four 10 minute and 10 second tracks, dividing the project evenly into four quarters. Their eighth album, Nonagon Infinity, consists of nine tracks that flow seamlessly into one another, effectively making it never ending.
2017 saw King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard accomplishing an impressive feat of producing five albums in a single calendar year. Critics applauded them for their consistency in both quantity and quality. The band has remained prolific since then, constantly keeping fans entertained through the release of new music, physical reissues, and frequent shifts in sound.
Their most recent album, The Silver Cord, saw the band shifting away from their more recognizable guitar driven sound in favor of a synthesizer based one. The album was released in two versions, one with shortened versions of the songs and the other with longer versions of the same tracks. King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard is Stu Mackenzie, Ambrose Kenny-Smith, Joey Walker, Cook Craig, Lucas Harwood, and Micahel “Cavs” Cavanagh.
