The Maine at Irving Plaza on Dec. 5 & 6

The Maine performs at When We Were Young Festival in Las Vegas, NV on 23 October, 2022.

The Maine is an American rock band from Tempe, Arizona. They formed in 2007 and the band consists of lead vocalist, guitarist and pianist John O’Callaghan, lead guitarist Jared Monaco, bass guitarist Garrett Nickelsen, drummer Patrick Kirch, and rhythm guitarist Kennedy Brock. In 2018, The Maine added touring member Adam Simons who plays keys, rhythm/lead guitar, and percussion.

Bassist Garrett Nickelsen and drummer Patrick Kirch had been playing in a punk band called Kerosene Kids. In 2007 their lead singer left, and the two of them decided to start over with a new name and a new sound. While they were still in high school, they regrouped and formally named their band The Maine- after the song “Coast of Maine” by Ivory. They held auditions and formed the rest of the band, soon after they released their debut EP Stay Up, Get Down in the same year.

They released their debut single “The Way We Talk” and the following day, they released their second EP, The Way We Talk which peaked at number ten on the US Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart and sold 50,000 copies.

The Maine’s music style has generally been regarded as alternative rock. They are also known for influences of pop punk, pop rock, and emo pop. The magazine Alternative Press has referred to them as “neon pop-punk.” The Maine has stated music influences of theirs include Third Eye Blind, Death Cab for Cutie, and Ivory.

The Maine will be playing New York, NY at Irving Plaza on December 5 and 6. Tickets are available on their website at https://www.themaineband.com/tour!
