Taylor Swift’s Song “Cruel Summer” Hits #1 Four Years After Release

After 4 years since its initial release, Taylor Swift’s 2019 song “Cruel Summer” has just reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100. This marks the pop star’s 10th Hot 100 listing following its recent release as a live single.

Back in August 2019, Swift released her seventh studio album, Lover, where “You Need To Calm Down” and “ME!” (feat. Brendon Urie of Panic! At The Disco) became radio familiarities. After her Eras Tour Movie hit theaters last week, her song “Cruel Summer” off of Lover quickly rose to the top of the charts.

According to Stereogum, Swift has become the 11th musician to have 10 or more songs reach #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100. The 9 other artists to accomplish such a rarity are The Beatles (20), Mariah Carey (19), Rihanna (14), Drake (13), Michael Jackson (13), Madonna (12), the Supremes (12), Whitney Houston (11), Janet Jackson (10), and Stevie Wonder (10).

The “You Belong With Me” singer shared in a video via Instagram, “We just want to say thank you very much for making ‘Cruel Summer’ a Hot 100 #1 and it’s not even the summer anymore.”

“It’s deep Fall, I’m wearing a sweater,” she continued alongside Jack Antonoff, her longtime friend and current producer.

Lover posed a significant milestone in Swift’s career as it became her first released album since her break away from music executive, Scooter Braun. Back in June 2019, Braun joined Big Machine Records in purchasing her masters, gaining control of more than half of her studio albums. The pop star has set off on a mission to claim her first 6 albums as her own while simultaneously re-familiarizing us with some of her classics.

The Grammy-winning artist has just wrapped up her 2023 “Eras” tour in support of her 2022 album Midnights. This was the first time Swifties were able to see the musician live since her “Reputation” tour in 2018. The long-awaited tour generated about $4.1 billion in consumer spending, boosting the economy through travel expenses, tickets, food, and merchandise sales.
