Crosses at Hammerstein Ballroom on February 20

Crosses (usually stylized as †††) is the musical side project of Deftones singer Chino Moreno and Far guitarist Shaun Lopez. The band is based in Los Angeles, California, formed in 2011.

Their musical style is described as electronic, electro-rock, dream pop, and Witch House- a micro-genre of electronic music that uses high-pitched keyboard effects, heavily layered baselines, and trap drum loops. Crosses have been noted for sharing more of Witch House’s visual aesthetics rather than their sound. Witch House includes occultism, witchcraft, shamanism, terror, and horror-inspired art, all of which are apparent in the name itself and by looking at the tracklists. Moreno is quoted saying he does not want people to think they are a religious or satanic band, and the imagery means something else to him artistically.

Crosses started when Chris Moreno began to record music with his childhood friend, Shaun Lopez, as well as Chuck Doom. When it started, Moreno described the band as “minimal and soothing,” quite different from the music he was used to singing, or rather, screaming.

Crosses first album was released in 2014, and they are slated to release their second full-length studio album, Goodnight, God Bless, I Love U, Delete, this October. This upcoming project will be their first album connected to a major label, the same label that Deftones is signed to.
