HEALTH at Brooklyn Steel on March 15

Health (often stylized as HEALTH) is an American noise rock/industrial band from Los Angeles, California. The name of the band was created when the members agreed it should be an “everyday word.” They looked at a long list of names and settled on “health” because it was the only one not yet taken. The band currently consists of Jake Duzsik on vocals and guitar, John Famiglietti on bass, pedals, and electronics, and BJ Miller on drums.

Their self-titled album was released in 2007 and was remixed and named  Health//Disco in 2008, which received favorable critical reception. The debut album was recorded in a Los Angeles noise/experimental venue, The Smell. Bassist John Famiglietti said that the room changes the tone of anything that is recorded there. HEALTH knew that this studio would elevate their harsh sound.

According to Rock Insider, HEALTH has been described as having “artfully crafted noise and raw synth, haunting monotone vocals, and drum skills that are borderline insane.” They are known for utilizing a “Zoothorn” which is a permutation of microphone and guitar pedal. HEALTH also keeps its lyrics intentionally vague so audiences are not focusing on relating to the words but rather connecting to the melodies.
