Album Review: Brujeria – Esto Es Brujeria

Fuming metal

Extreme metal band Brujeria has been rattling people’s minds with their music since 1989 . The band released their fifth album Esto Es Brujeria September 15, each track is filled with soul shaking instrumentation and killer vocals. People who enjoy hearing face smacking music will enjoy Esto Es Brujeria.

“El Patrón Del Reventón” is a vein jolting piece that is filled with thunderous drum playing by Hongo Jr (Nicholas Barker). Throughout the whole thing, righteous drum beats can be heard shaking the background with great power. The sound of Hongo Jr. playing at a faster tempo shows how chaotic things are in Brujeria’s musical world.

“G-A-K” is a true head banger with how the guitar playing brings the heart stopping metal vibe. Right off the bat, heavy guitar riffs can be heard filling the atmosphere with relentless sound while the bass guitar contributes to the madness with solid and vibrating notes. “G-A-K” is a dance like crazy while the guitar blares through the speakers track.

“Mochado” is another ditty that highlights the intense elements of metal music. The vocal performances are wonderful, each vocalist passionately grumbles out the lyrics with pure rage. The best part is the strong emotions leaving the singer’s mouths as they are expressing their feelings.

“Covid-666” is a tune that has relatable lyrics because every word describes Brujeria’s feelings about the virus. While listening, the lyrics truly capture the struggles some people are still facing since the pandemic restrictions have lifted. In ways it feels like the band is sharing their frustrations about how COVID-19 negatively impacted people. “Covid-666” is an honest song about the aftermath of the virus.

Brujeria is not afraid to speak their mind on Esto Es Brujeria. Through the dynamic instrumentation and vocal performances, some people will be able to understand why the band has enraptured our society and their home country of Mexico.
