Kimbra at Public Records on October 14

Kimbra Lee Johnson, known as solely, Kimbra, is a New Zealand singer and songwriter. She is known for mixing pop with R&B, jazz, and rock.

Kimbra began writing songs when she was 10 years old, and by the age of 12, her father bought her her first guitar. She entered the national school’s music competition, Rockquest, and was awarded second place when she was only 14.

In 2010, Kimbra released her single “Settle Down,” which was followed by her debut album Vows the next year in Australia. She reworked the album in 2012 and rereleased it for European and American audiences. After making it to the United States, Vows debuted at number 14 on the Billboard 200.

She was very notably featured on the multi-platinum single “Somebody That I Used to Know” by Gotye. This would become her first number-one single on the US Billboard Hot 100 and also earned them two Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year. This made Kimbra the third New Zealand singer to win a Grammy. Kimbra’s fourth and most recent studio album, A Reckoning, was released in January of this year with a very positive critical reception.

For a special show on October 14, Kimbra will be playing at Public Records in Brooklyn, NY with The Nursery: Exo-Tech, alongside several other artists including Sophia Brous!
