Courtney Barnett is an Australian singer, songwriter, and musician most known for her deadpan style of singing and witty lyrics.
Her debut EP, I’ve Got a Friend Called Emily Ferris, was released in 2012 and came with immediate attention. When she released her second EP, The Double EP: A Sea of Split Peas, the following year, Barnett was starting to get international recognition. By the time she released her first studio album, Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit, in 2015, she reached widespread acclaim and massive success, including four awards and eight nominations at the ARIA Music Awards. Barnett was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best New Artist category. She was also nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best New Artist category, and Best International Female in 2016 for the Brit Awards.
Before her solo career began, Barnett played second guitar in the Melbourne grunge band, Rapid Transit. She also recorded early versions of her songs with her band Courtney Barnett and the Olivettes. Up until the release of her debut album, Courtney Barnett, Bones Sloane, and Dave Mudie toured as Courtney Barnett and the Courtney Barnetts.
Courtney Barnett is known for playing left-handed guitars, but occasionally plays right-handed guitars flipped upside-down- Barnett herself has stated she does not prefer to play this way.
Her latest album, End of the Day was released on September 8, and she begins touring in October. Barnett has two New York shows on October 12 and 13, both of which are recently sold out, but there is a waitlist for fans to join!
