Canadian rock band, Metric, kicks off their special limited tour to celebrate the release of our new album Formentera II, and the 20th Anniversary of Old World Underground! The first show on this tour will be taking place at The Bowery Ballroom in New York, NY.
Metric was formed in 1998 in Toronto, Ontario, led by singer/keyboardist Emily Haines, guitarist James Shaw, bassist Joshua Winstead, and drummer Joules Scott-Key. Originally Haines and Shaw performed as a duo with the moniker, Mainstream, and produced their first EP under this name. They originally met at a tavern in 1996, bonding over their hatred for the current music scene, which led the couple to begin dating and writing songs together. In November 2000, they recruited Scott-Key and Mason to complete the band.
In 2003, Metric released their first studio album, Old World Underground, Are You Now?, which appeared shortly after on !earshot National Top 50 radio chart. With this album, it showed they began to develop a more layered and musically mature sound than what was featured on their EP. Most of their music before adding in the additional members had been recorded in the studio rather than played live because it was difficult to reproduce the synthesizer and drum machine-based sounds.
Their second studio album, Live It Out was released in 2005 and was very well received by critics and fans, going double platinum in Canada. Metric gained mainstream popularity following their fourth album which had a more new-wave/loud rock style. They continued to grow and tour around the world over the next decade, becoming quite popular in the festival circuit.
Metric announced that they will be performing a special set of shows in NYC, LA, Toronto, London, Paris, Berlin, Mexico City, Monterrey, and Santiago.
