Arctic Monkeys can be described as dabbling in the genres of indie rock, garage rock, alternative rock, and britpop. They were formed in England in 2002 in Sheffield. The band consists of Jamie Cook on guitar and keyboards, Matt Helders on drums, percussion, backing vocals and keyboard, Alex Turner on lead vocals, guitar and keyboard and Nick O’Malley on bass guitar and backing vocals. Their first album was titled Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not, and it was released on January 23rd, 2006. It ended up becoming the fastest-selling debut album in the UK up to that date. Their second album, Favourite Worst Nightmare, was released on April 20th, 2007 and was well received by the world. They released two more albums before being met with worldwide stardom. They released Humbug on August 19th, 2009 and Suck It and See on June 1st, 2011.
America fully became aware of the Arctic Monkeys when they released their 5th studio album, AM, on their September 9th, 2013. It is still their most popular album to date. The album topped 4 Billboard charts and went certified platinum. Their sixth album, Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino, was released on May 11th, 2018, almost 5 years after AM. It was a major departure from the band’s previous guitar-heavy work and instead was focused on piano. It received a Best Alternative Music Album nomination at the 2019 Grammy Awards.
Arctic Monkeys announced their seventh studio album, The Car, in August of 2022. The album was released on October 21st, 2022 and was met with great success.
