The Drums will be coming to San Francisco to play at The Regency Ballroom on August 18th, 2023.
With singer Jonathan Pierce being the sole remaining member of the original band, The Drums was at one point a four-piece group started by Pierce and his childhood friend Jacob Graham. Adam Kessler and Connor Hanwick joined Pierce and Graham in 2009 (after Pierce and Graham had hatched the idea for The Drums in 2008). The group’s first EP, Summertime!, was released in October 2009. They quickly gained critical acclaim, particularly in England, getting press attention from publications like BBC, NME, and Clash Magazine.
After a string of albums, by 2016, Hanwick and Kessler were out of the band, and it was around that year that Graham opted to leave The Drums as well, on good terms with Pierce. Pierce continued to write new music with various musicians and on his own, and in 2017 put out The Drums’ fourth album, Abysmal Thoughts. This was followed by a fifth album, Brutalism in 2019. Having released a few singles in 2023, Pierce is back on the road.
Touring with Johnny Aries and Tom Haslow on guitar and bass, and Bryan de Leon on drums, Pierce continues to bring his energetic and engaged self and voice to the stage night in and night out. It should be an electric night on August 18th, with The Drums in the midst of their Summer tour.
