The prodigal daughter returns! New York native and legendary singer Alicia Keys is coming to New York City on July 12th for a performance at The Barclays Center.
Born and raised in Hell’s Kitchen, Keys is a New Yorker through and through, her musical career started at a very young age, she enrolled at the Profession Performing Arts School at 12 years old, forming her first group soon after. She was scouted as early as 13 years old, finally signing with Columbia Records as a 15 year old though that relationship soured quickly. The entire time, Keys continued to make music and dedicate herself to her craft.
In 2001, at only 20 years old, Keys released Songs in A Minor which included R&B, piano, soul, and jazz in a signature mix for which the artist would soon become known. Her popularity rose incredibly quickly, with the album debuting at number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.
From then on, Keys’s popularity has been undeniable as a constant force in music over the last 20+ years. Songs including “If I Ain’t Got You” and “Girl on Fire” have been streamed over 500 million times on Spotify alone.
Keys is proud to be from New York, taking special joy in performing “Empire State of Mind” with fellow NYC artist Jay-Z– who now is a part owner of the Brooklyn Nets and was instrumental in the building of The Barclays Center where the Nets play home games.
Keys is fresh off her new album, Keys II which was released in 2022, though she has since released a live recording of her show in Bogotá, Colombia, and contributed to the Queen Charlotte soundtrack for Netflix. Her tour for Keys II starts in late June and includes 16 dates across the US.
