Tickets to see punk cabaret duo The Dresden Dolls at Bowery Ballroom October 24th, 25th, 27th, and 28th, are on sale this week!
Amanda Palmer and Brian Viglione, the duo that makes up The Dresden Dolls, met after Palmer performed solo at a Halloween party in 2000. Quickly the two artists formed an identity with their cabaret style clothing and makeup garnering them a cult following at their live shows. Palmer is the lead vocalist and plays piano, keyboard, ukulele, and harmonica during the show while Viglione performs backup vocals, drums, guitar, and bass.
The pair’s first major release came in 2003, a mostly live-recorded compilation entitled A is for Accident. Their second album Yes Virginia was released in 2006.
In 2009 the band decided to take a hiatus, one that included a handful of reunions throughout the 2010s but mostly remained quiet.
In 2019 Amanda Palmer, who was touring solo at the time, announced that The Dresden Dolls would be returning for a studio album and subsequent tour, both of which were delayed due to the pandemic. However, Palmer and Viglione continued to work together with Viglione playing drums on a few songs on Palmer’s charity album released in February of 2020.
Finally, now in 2023, The Dresden Dolls have reunited, announcing a 12 date US tour. This tour will include 4 shows in New York City at The Bowery Ballroom on October 24th, 25th, 27th, and 28th.
The Dresden Dolls prefer an immersive show experience where the audience participates by dressing up as well, and performing their own talents such as stilt walking, living statues, fire breathing and more. Their shows are a sight to behold.
