Love and Rockets at Moody Theater on June 16th!

It’s the reunion all rock fans have been waiting for, Love and Rockets are back and better than ever with a brand new tour! The band hasn’t been together since 2009, but a brand new Instagram account was made for the band on January 21st, 2023 announcing that fans need to get ready for some exciting news. On March 14th, the band announced a brand new reunion tour hitting the East Coast! The shows were met with so much popularity that they added shows in the rest of the U.S.! Love and Rockets will be performing in Austin on June 16th, 2023 at The Moody Theater.

Love and Rockets was formed in 1985 and the band got their name from a comic book series written by the Hernandez brothers. The band was known for having a gothic rock appearance, but their first two albums had a more pop-influenced sound than what fans were used to off the bat. Their first album, Seventh Dream of Teenage Heaven, was released on October 11th, 1985. Their second album, Express, was released on September 15th, 1986 and although categorized as an alternative album, it had more pop inspiration than their previous album. One of their more famous albums and 3rd official album, Earth, Sun, Moon, was released just a year later in 1987. This album was more acoustic than the previous 2. In 1989, the band released their self-titled album as their 4th album and it is now their most popular album to date. “So Alive,” a single from the album, became a global hit and peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100. Their next album, Hot Trip to Heaven, was released on September 27th, 1994 and their 6th album, Sweet F.A., was released on March 19th, 1996.

During the recording of Sweet F.A. in 1995, tragedy struck. A fire broke out in the building where the band was living and recording Sweet F.A. None of the band members were harmed in the fire, but they lost some of their gear, instruments and months worth of work on the album. After enduring so much, the band still released the album within the next year and continued to record new music. Their 7th and final album at this point in time was released on October 13th, 1998. The album, Lift, is categorized under the electronica genre, which is different from the rest of their albums. After its release, the band performed one concert before disbanding in 1999.

It wasn’t until 8 years later that fans would hear from their beloved rock band. In October of 2007, the band announced on their Myspace page that they would be performing at “Cast a Long Shadow” show, which was a tribute to Joe Strummer as well as a benefit for Strummers Foundation for New Music, Strummerville. The concert was held on December 22nd, 2007. They continued to perform live within the next two years at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and Lollapalooza in 2008. A tribute album titled, New Tales to Tell: A Tribute to Love and Rockets, was released on August 18th, 2009 before the band disbanded again.

Now, 14 years later, the band has announced a surprise reunion tour that will be sweeping the hearts of rock fans across the nation. Don’t miss the opportunity to see this iconic band in person, possibly for the last time. They have most recently released a Doppelganger Mix of “My Dark Twin” onto streaming platforms on April 26th, 2023, which marks one of the first releases on their streaming platforms in 2 decades. Come watch Love and Rockets perform hits like “So Alive,” “No New Tale To Tell” and “Ball of Confusion” live at The Moody Theater!
