Bryson Tiller at Oasis Wynwood on May 28th

Bryson Tiller started rapping and singing in high school in his native Louisville, Kentucky. He launched his mixtape Killer Instinct, Vol. in his late teens. Timbaland asked Tiller about collaborating, and Tiller agreed to leave his position. Tiller first expressed interest in joining Drake’s OVO Sound label, but following considerable consideration, he chose to accept an offer from RCA. Then, in May 2015, Tiller made his debut on a major label. A handful of months later, the full-length T R A P S O U L was released and reached its Billboard 200 high at position eight. Within six months, the album received a platinum certification, aided along by the further multi-platinum hits “Exchange” and “Sorry Not Sorry,” the latter of which was co-produced by Timbaland. The Grammy Award for Best R&B Song went to “Exchange,” a mainstream song that peaked at number 26.

After guest appearances and non-album singles, Tiller’s second release, True to Self, arrived in May 2017 with Tiller serving as the lead act. It debuted at number one right away and was another collection of thrashing slow jams. Tiller and Rihanna collaborated over the same time period on DJ Khaled’s second-place hit, “Wild Thoughts.” Additional featured performances and unrelated tracks were released before Tiller’s third album. The most notable partnerships were “Insecure” and “Could’ve Been,” which was nominated for a Grammy, with Jazmine Sullivan, and “Could’ve Been.” with H.E.R. in 2020.

Drake contributed vocals to the song “Outta Time,” which was produced by 40, Nineteen85, and Vinylz and reached the album’s peak position at number five. Killer Instinct 2: The Nightmare Before, Bryson Tiller’s second mixtape, was released a year later on Halloween and the tenth anniversary of his first mixtape. The next month saw the release of another holiday-themed album, A Different Christmas by Justin Bieber, Pentatonix, and Kiana Ledé. The most of the songs on the EP were originals, and there was also a fresh rendition of “Winter Wonderland.” In 2022, Tiller released the single “Outside” as a solo effort and had a cameo on Diddy’s “Gotta Move On.”
