King Krule, also known as Archy Marshall, will be coming to Austin, Texas on September 12th! His brand new tour was just announced last week and it became public knowledge that Stubb’s Waller Creek Amphitheater would be hosting the 28 year-old musician for one incredible night. With a new album on the way, it’s guaranteed to be a very special show!
King Krule was born in 1994 in Southwark, London. Krule has mentioned in the past that growing up was a journey for him that came with a lot of challenges that have inspired his music. He talks about struggling with mental health in these times in his lyrics. Krule began recording music under the name Zoo Kid at the start of his career. Between 2008 and 2011, he released two singles and was a part of the growth of the musical genre “Bluewave.” At a festival in France, he played under the name King Krule for the very first time in July of 2011. The name was inspired by the film King Creole by Elvis Presley. Two years after the introduction of King Krule on stage, he released his debut album 6 Feet Beneath the Moon on his 19th birthday, August 24th, 2013. This brought Krule attention in the United States that he had never seen before.
King Krule also has music under his real name, Archy Marshall, with his brother Jack Marshall. In December of 2015, he released the album A New Place 2 Drown with 12 complete songs. It also came with a 200+ page book full of his passions of visual arts and texts. It also came with a 10 minute documentary. The album released under his birth name has an entirely different feeling than the music that King Krule is known to produce. Marshall’s album under his own name can be characterized as hip hop and King Krule plays music that has a jazz sound and can be compared to dark alternative. This break from King Krule was a side project that shows a different side to Archy Marshall that fans had not yet seen!
After this adventure with his brother, Marshall got right back to creating music as King Krule. His first release since 6 Feet Beneath the Moon was a single titled “Czech One” in August 2017. The song can now be found as a part of his second released album, The OOZ. The album was released on October 13th, 2017 and sparked a lot of buzz. It was one of the most discussed and shared albums in the year 2017 and Pitchfork named it the best rock album of 2017. It was even nominated for IMPALA’s European Album of the Year Award. His third album, Man Alive!, was released on February 21st, 2020. It had many hits and was critically acclaimed.
Along with 3 stellar albums, King Krule also has 2 live albums, 3 EPs and one brand new album on the way! His new album Space Heavy is set to be released on June 9th, 2023, and a single from the album is already available for streaming. “Seaforth” is the first single from the album and is accompanied by an incredible music video. Don’t miss your chance to see a man who has accomplished so much rock the stage in Austin, Texas. His shows are known for creative lighting and stunning visuals.
