The Backseat Lovers set to perform at The Moody Amphitheater on May 17th

The up-and-coming alternative rock band, The Backseat Lovers, will be hitting the Moody Amphitheater stage on May 17th with special guest, Free Range! The Waiting to Spill World Tour was announced on March 8th of this year and began only 9 days ago in Vancouver, Canada. The “Kirby Girl” singers will be performing 3 times in Texas, including Houston, Dallas, and here in Austin!

The band formed in 2018 in Provo, Utah. Members Joshua Harmon and Jonas Swanson met while waiting in line for an open mic night while being accompanied by member Juice Welch and past member Ethan Christensen. The band formed less than a year later with Harmon on lead vocals and guitar, Swanson on guitar, Welch on the drums, and Christensen on the bass. After Christensen’s departure, KJ Ward replaced him on the bass and the member lineup has remained the same since. The band won a “battle of the bands” competition in June of 2018 in Provo and immediately released their first EP, Elevator Days, afterwards on June 3rd. 8 months later, the band released their first studio album, When We Were Friends, on January 27th, 2019. The band’s popularity skyrocketed after the release of this album when people all over the world fell in love with the single, “Kilby Girl,” from the album. The single soon hit radio stations nationally and reached mainstream success. It also peaked at #39 on the Billboard Rock & Alternative Airplay chart in 2021. In time, the single has reached over 200 million streams on Spotify and is their most listened to song on Apple Music.

The band was invited to perform at the 2021 Lollapalooza Music Festival where they were met with a new audience and an abundant growth in following. They were invited back to perform at Lollapalooza this year that will take place in August. On August 15th, 2022, the band announced the release of their second studio album, Waiting to Spill. The first single from the album, “Growing/Dying,” was released on August 18th, 2022 and started buzz amongst fans as they anticipated the album’s release. Next, the single, “Close Your Eyes,” was released on September 16th with the band exclaiming that the single is very special to them. “Slowing Down” was the last single to be released before the album was said to come out. It was released on October 8th, 2022, and only increased the excitement for the release of an album full of new music. Waiting to Spill was released just 20 days later on October 28th. Just last month on March 28th, the music video for the song “Snowbank Blues” was released on YouTube.

The Waiting to Spill Tour is dedicated to their most recent album, but that doesn’t mean they won’t sing their hit songs from When We Were Friends, including “Kilby Girl.” This tour is extremely special and The Backseat Lovers will be partnering with several charities across the US that are specific to the location they are performing in. In Austin, they have partnered with The SAFE Alliance whose mission is “ending violence through prevention, advocacy, and comprehensive services for individuals, families, and communities that have been affected by abuse,” according to safeaustin.orgDon’t miss your chance to support great cause while listening to incredible live music at the same time!
