23 year old rising star, Lizzy McAlpine is currently venturing on her very first headlining tour and Austin is lucky enough to be included as a stop! On May 8th, McAlpine will be taking The Moody Theater stage for Austin City Limits Live! The folk-pop singer will surely sing her recent hit single, “ceilings” live at the show and that is something you won’t want to miss!
McAlpine has been writing music since she was in the 6th grade while being a member of an a cappella group and studying theater at the same time. She studied songwriting at the Berklee College of music. Her passion for music was so strong that she left college her junior year to fully focus on getting her music out to the world. In the fall of 2019, she studied abroad in Spain and curated her debut solo album, Give Me a Minute, while traveling. The album was then released on August 13th, 2020 and was met with outstanding reviews. The album created buzz, but due to COVID-19, McAlpine was unable to perform it live for her beloved following. This led to her to creating a streaming concert series on Instagram with the hashtag, #BerkleeAtHome. Her forward thinking led to positive attention online. She became a somewhat “Tik Tok Star” and shared her music virtually through video and livestream. In June of 2020, she sang an unreleased song she wrote, titled “You Ruined the 1975,” on Tik Tok and the video received over 8 million views.
On November 21st, 2021, McAlpine made her late-night debut on Jimmy Kemmel Live! where she performed “Erase Me” that would soon be released on her second studio album, Five Seconds Flat. The album was released on April 8th, 2022 and debuted at #5 on US Billboard Heatseekers chart. It peaked at #9 on the Alternative New Artist Albums and #19 on the Top New Artist Albums chart. BBC Media Centre even named her an “up-and-coming vocalist!” From her previous support from an ample online community, the song “ceilings” from the album grew in Tik Tok fame. “Ceilings” now has 711.5k posts on Tik Tok using the sound and a trend of people running and singing the lyrics has appeared on a magnitude of Tik Tok users For You page. This caused the song to reach #7 on the UKs single’s chart and made it her highest charting song to date.
Tragically, McAlpine’s father suddenly passed away on the 12th of March in 2020. The single, “Headstones and Land Mines” on Give Me a Minute is dedicated to him. The song is a raw and heart wrenching memoir about missing her father and seeing him in the world around her. The song “chemtrails” on her second album, Five Seconds Flat, is also dedicated to her father. The song speaks of the pain of missing him and things she wishes she could tell him today. This heartbreaking moment in McAlpine’s life has only fueled her to write more music and live on her fathers legacy through her lyrics. It is a beautiful sight to see from such a strong, young woman.
Following the release of Five Seconds Flat, McAlpine announced her debut headlining tour that includes US and international dates. “The End of the Movie” Tour will have special guest Olivia Barton and the tour name is word play from her hit song, “Ceilings.” According to her official twitter, McAlpine states that the “tour setlist is perfect” and attendees will get “3 new songs!” Be one of the people who gets to see this rising star on her very first headlining tour!
