Mongolian folk metal band, The Hu, celebrate Earth Day with new song, “Mother Nature”, along with a tree planting initiative that the band has launched to plant 12,000 Siberian Elm Trees in Southeast Mongolia. This campaign is in partnership with environmentalist group, SHAMBALE2056 Engineering Campus, LLC who have already been the helping hands behind many successful restoration projects. This single was taken from the group’s upcoming deluxe edition to their 2022 album, Rumble of Thunder, and was released alongside an English translated lyric video.
The group most famously known for their blending of Mongolian throat singing with the sounds of traditional folk music and metal, deliver a soothing love letter to the Earth in “Mother Nature”. Differing from the usual doom-heavy tone that many environmental awareness songs have, this newest single is a sonnet written in adoration for the world. Singing the lyrics, “Dear Mother Nature, your wisdom is a precious treasure for your children” over the soft sounds of traditional instrumentation blended with a folk rock groove.
The reason their tree planting project will be using Siberian Elms is due to the tree’s strong rooting system and low water requirement. These trees will be able to survive the desert landscape of Southeast Mongolia, also helping to fight the rapid deforestation and sandstorms that take place in the Gobi. All 12,000 trees will be planted in the shape of the band’s iconic one horn leopard logo, with plans to begin the digging process at the beginning of May.
