100 gecs is back and better than ever! On January 19th, 2023, they announced a brand new tour in honor of their recently released album, 10,000 gecs. The tour started on April 8th and the Austin show is fast approaching. Come catch this fantastic duo live at the Stubb’s Waller Creek Amphitheater on Saturday, May 6th, 2023 for their 10,000 gecs tour 2 with Machine Girl!
The 100 gecs duo, Dylan Brady and Laura Les, first met while at a rodeo in high school. The two hit it off but didn’t decide to collaborate together until seeing each other again at a local house party in 2015. Their unique and creative ideas mixed with their shared love for music made for the perfect partnership. They put their creativity together and eventually released their first EP, 100 gecs, on July 12th of 2016. Their music style has been described by the public as electropop, electronic rock and experimental pop. They then released their debut album, 1000 gecs, on May 31st, 2019. The album played a part in continuing the introduction of the music style “hyperpop” to the world. The album embraces the genre in its entirety and takes it to new and extreme lengths. The album granted the duo a shoutout from Rolling Stone calling them an “Artist You Need to Know” in 2019. They released 1000 gecs and the Tree of Clues on July 10th, 2020 as a companion album to their previous release. The duo can be best known for their ample performances at household name music festivals. They have performed at Lollapalooza Chicago, Chile and Brazil all within the last 2 years. In 2022 alone, 100 gecs performed at Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, Leeds Festival, Firefly Music Festival and Float Fest right down the road in Gonzales, Texas!
Just over a year after the release of their first album, 100 gecs announced that their second album, 10,000 gecs, was ready and awaiting release. The first single off the album, “MeMeMe,” was released on November 19th, 2021 and sparked buzz around the anticipated release. Almost 5 months later, the second single “Doritos & Fritos” was released. This single had fans talking when they noticed that the song ventured off from their original music style and instead had a more alt-rock feel to it. They also released the third single, “Hollywood Baby,” with an accompanied music video on February 16th of 2023. After a long wait and excited anticipation from 100 gecs’ fans, 10,000 gecs was released on March 17th, 2023 alongside a music video for the final album single, “Dumbest Girl Alive.”
Fans of 100 gecs have found a unique way to honor and enjoy the band. A large pine tree is featured on the cover art for 1000 gecs and fans made it their mission to find this exact tree in real life. The tree was given the name “1000 gecs tree” by the fandom and was eventually located by fans. The tree is located in Des Plaines, Illinois and fans have begun making journeys to the tree and leaving items behind in symbolism. These dedicated and loyal fans have made the fandom a fun community to be a part of!
