Kali Uchis opening night at Moody Amphitheater on April 25th

Grammy Winner Kali Uchis will be opening up her brand new tour in Austin, Texas! The first stop on the Red Moon in Venus Tour will be next week, on April 25th, at the Moody Amphitheater! This self-made pop sensation will be touring her brand new album, Red Moon In Venus, with special guest, RAYE! Here’s a little more about Kali Uchis and what you need to know before seeing her live!

Uchis’ interest in creative arts started long before her passion for singing and performing. The Columbian-American singer had an interest in photography throughout high school, which led her to create mixtape cover art in her free time. Quickly after high school graduation, Uchis wrote songs in her car on her keyboard. This transformed into the form of a lo-fi mixtape we now know as her first debut mixtape, Drunken Babble, released in 2012. Three years later, Uchis dropped her debut EP, Por Vida, on February 4th of 2015. At first, this EP was free to download on her official website, but later was added to iTunes to be purchased and streamed!

After many features with acclaimed artists such as Snoop Dogg, Diplo, Tyler, the Creator and many more, Uchis was itching to release her first ever studio album. On April 6th, 2018, Uchis released her album, Isolation, with hit singles “Dead To Me,” “Tyrant,” “Nuestro Planeta,” “After the Storm” and “Just a Stranger.” The album falls under the genre R&B/Soul, but it has hints of Latin pop and psych-rock. After a successful first release, Uchis decided that she wanted her music to represent her bicultural identity and celebrate her culture through her lyrics. On December 4th, 2020, Uchis released her first Spanish language album, Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios). At first, the album did not see significant numbers, but the single “Telepatía” reached Spanish speakers worldwide and gained the album the traction it so honorably deserved.

“Telepatía” became one of the most popular songs on TikTok in 2021 and reached new heights in the U.S. that Uchis had never seen before. It was her first hit to make it onto the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. The single was named “Favorite Song: Latin” at the American Music Awards in 2021, “Winning Songwriters” at the ASCAP Pop Music Awards in 2022 and “Top Latin Song” at the Billboard Latin Music Awards in 2022. Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios) won Latin Pop Album of the Year at the Billboard Latin Music Awards in 2021 due to its growth in popularity.

On April 21st, 2022 at the Latin American Music Awards, Uchis announced that she had finished her 3rd and 4th studio albums. She expressed that one would be in English and one would be in Spanish. Her duality of language in these albums are met with the hope that her passion for songwriting can resonate with many people around the world who speak different languages. This year, on March 3rd, the R&B/Soul album, Red Moon In Venus, was released on all streaming platforms. The album earned a top 10 spot on the Billboard 200 all-genre albums.

Kali Uchis has earned multiple awards for her impact on Latin music culture. She won Top Latin Female Artist at the Billboard Latin Music Awards in 2022 and Best New Latin Artist at the iHeartRadio Music Awards in 2023! Even though she is relatively new to the music scene, Uchis has already won a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording for her feature in Kaytranada’s single, “10%,” at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards. It is a great honor that Uchis will be starting her tour in the great city of Austin, Texas. Tickets are available on Ticketmaster.com
