Delicate, Dreamlike and Mysterious
Delerium’s newly released album, Signs, is an interesting soundtrack that features hints of pop and dubstep styles. The album features a mix of singers that give each song a completely different sound. The haunting voices of the vocalists add a mysterious quality to the music that never quite resolves, even at the close of the album.
The album opens with a heartfelt piano solo that instantly fills the song with intense emotions. The piano solo sounds dark and carries a powerful drive that helps kickstart the album’s energy, which is carried effortlessly into the next track. Though the album is mostly laid-back and somewhat relaxing, the energy is still at full strength. There is a steady beat throughout each song, which gives it a calming sense.
The vocals help separate each song by giving each of them their own special voice. The singers help to give the album a dreamlike quality, as well as a sense of vulnerability. The use of the vocals on the album adds a human quality to the work that creates a relatability with its audience. This is a nice touch to the album that helps distinguish the songs from each other, and keeps them from running together and sounding too repetitive.
Signs is a delicate album that is full of ambient tones and vulnerable voices that make it a relaxing work of art. The record features very soft melodies, and the layers of electronic elements help to give a sharp edge to each song. The contrast between the softness of the melodies and the harshness of the electronic sounds is striking.
Though the energy remains constant throughout, the album is not exactly exciting. Luckily, the duo chose to incorporate various individual vocalists whose talents add an intriguing element to the album, maintaining each song’s distinction while also braiding them together cohesively. Fans could possibly be disappointed by the album’s lack of thrilling excitement, or may find that they enjoy the album’s simple rhythms and ambient tones.
