Frankie Rose at Gramps on Apr. 15th

In the 2000s, Frankie Rose was such an important part of Brooklyn NY’s growing indie rock scene, realized greatly for her drumming technique and infrequent vocals. As an original member of the noise pop genre trio Vivian Girls, she also took part in popular bands like Crystal Stilts and Dum Dum Girls prior to making her solo debut as a singer/songwriter with “Thee Only One,” a melodious, reverbed noise rock number for Slumberland.

Frankie Rose’s solo career consisted of playing blends of catchy indie rock with sidesteps into shoegazing and synth pop. Albums like Interstellar (2012) and Cage Tropical (2017) introduced a newer side to Rose. Once that leaned toward brighter, new wave based material. Before her next album was her 2021 single “I’ll Be Your Lightning,” which was an excerpt from the recording that eventually led up to Love as Projection (2023), a radiant electro set.

Love as Projection dived deep into electronic music, coupling a few of Rose’s best songs to this day with detailed production composed by synths, drum machines, hooks, and a more digital rendering. The album dropped again on Slumberland in March 2023.

Melanie Stewart: Hi! My name is Melanie and I am a music business/management student at Berklee College of Music. As a young child, I began vocal training and continued up until my second year of college. My experience in music has lead me to many opportunities including performing at local clubs/cafes, joining a band, and writing my own music amongst other things. Outside of music, I have a passion for business and design. I have been able to create my own business as well as co-design a website for a peer project to be used for their company. I hope to perfect my skill and further my education.
